With the unique distinction of being the only foreign-born bowler to take top honors in both the US Open and Masters, Mika has won titles in 12 countries. The 2003-2004 PBA Player of the Year is a Finland Native, and was a member of Team Finland for over a decade. He finished out the 2009-2010 season with three top-10 finishes and ranked 20th in the entire PBA. Highlights of his incredible international success include bowling a 300 in eight different countries. Mika is also the winner of the 2003-2004 George Young High Average Award.
Of Note: On January 22nd, 2011 it was an once-in-a-lifetime moment when Mika won top honors at the 2011 Tournament of Champions at Red Rock Lanes in Las Vegas. Koivuniemi took home the $250,000 grand prize and is now the first international bowler to claim the PBA Tournament of Champions title. Koivuniemi also became the only player to earn television appearance in all four majors. During the U.S. Open Koiveniemi finished second to Norm Duke. Mika finished the 2010-11 season with $1,560, 813 in career PBA earnings.
Personal: With his wife Leena and daughters Ida and Lidia, Mika resides in Michigan, and was a professional electrician before joining the PBA in 1999.
